An Alert, Protective and Loyal Companion
This is, perhaps, the Belgian Malinois' highest calling! At the end of the day, a well-bred, well-trained* Belgian Malinois provides a serious 'layer of security' around you and your home. Your Mali will Alert you to the presence of others--long before the doorbell rings.
The mere presence of a Belgian Malinois is a Strong Deterrent. A Malinois at home tells would-be robbers that this is not the house they want to enter. On the street, not many would-be assailants would be foolish enough to attempt to attack or rob you with a Malinois at your side!
According to the Wall Street Journal (June, 2022), violent crime in urban areas has risen by 30%, and by 25% in rural areas during the past two years. Older men and women living alone, in particular, are often seen as 'soft targets'.
Personally, I sleep comfortably knowing there is a Malinois 'on duty' 24/7! When it is time to shop, run errands, or meet with friends, a Mali goes along for the ride and walks with me everywhere I go. This gives me the confidence to maintain an independent lifestyle. Given the current social and political 'climate'--a women seen alone in public is all too often the victim of harassment and/or assault. It is in the Tireless Energy, Shiny Coat, Bright Eyes, and Pearly White Teeth! But what you cannot see is just as important! Earthaven tests Canines with Embark for 215 genetic disease markers, as well as testing for hip and elbow abnormalities. Additionally, all are kept in a Clean Environment, fed an Excellent Diet, provided Fresh Filtered Rainwater, and Health Checked regularly with a Veterinarian who knows them!
Environment Matters!
The Malinois thrives best in an Environment where s/he receives regular exercise--outdoors in fresh air! We accomplish this with PLAY! Paying attention to growing joints and bones, so as not overdo it, we play chase and catch games to build muscle, coordination and stamina. We live in a Temperate Rainforest--which is beautiful, but there are dangers, too! Many dangers are the kind you cannot readily see, like nasty fleas and ticks! So all are protected against these threats, and are given regular preventatives against all internal parasites, and inoculations against disease.
My Pack is never left outside at night, or during inclement weather. Puppies are whelped indoors. When older, they have their own shelter with siblings, and are brought into the house to work on crate acceptance, manners, or just to cuddle!
Socialization Matters
It is called "Environmental Proofing". Earthaven canines have great manners in the home, but they are also (safely) exposed, to people of all sizes and ages, and to as many different kinds of animals and environments as possible. They become accustomed to stimuli like slippery floors, stairs, parking lots, store interiors, traffic, loud noises and strange odors.
The idea is to "normalize" anything about which the puppy may become suspicious, like a fire hydrant, a person wearing an odd hat, or a flapping flag. This "proofing" begins at Earthaven, but new owners who want their dogs to be confident in all situations are well-advised to continue to take their pups with them to encounter a variety of people, animals and objects--as a normal part of the training process.
All Earthaven Puppies come from level-headed parents who have solid nerves, excellent health and conformation. They are vet checked, vaccinated, fully wormed, microchipped and AKC registered. They are started in indoor manners, house training, crate training and socialization.
