Mr. Aramis is a Big Boy! He is by Earthaven's Asa (from Windrush), out of Blackhawk's Kellee's Thunder- a retired Patrol K-9. As a small puppy Mr. Aramis showed a keen interest in the contents of my refrigerator, just like his Sire, Asa, before him! An omen. One of the few dogs I have trained for someone else, Mr. Aramis is and was always a low-key guy. So, when a fellow Brain Injury (TBI) sufferer (a firefighter injured in the line-of-duty), expressed an interest in a Belgian Malinois Service Dog, I had just the Gentle Giant for him!
A Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold!
Sweet-tempered Earthaven's Aramis found his home with a Traumatic Brain Injured Firefighter and his family in Virginia. He helps by pulling his master's wheelchair--as needed. He opens doors and drawers, turns lights on and off, and retrieves objects. He also provides physical support when his owner wishes to stand--or to transition from his wheelchair to another seat--such as a car seat. Service Dogs, like Mr. Aramis provide 'social support' by serving as an 'Ambassador' between people with handicaps--and the public at-large. Being a cross between a show line (with lots of Terv) and a working line, I did not expect any "militancy", yet his Master assures me Mr. Aramis will "turn on" on command, and will throw himself--bodily--between his Master and any potential threat.
Mr. Aramis is 12, and now retired. He leaves behind large, strong, level-headed puppies who have gone on to do SAR, HRD, and to serve other disabled masters. His offspring exceed the 'breed standard' in size.
Mr. Aramis' sire, Earthaven's Asa, age 14, currently resides with a Police Officer and his family, in New Mexico.
